How to Journal after a Trauma-informed Yoga Session

Journalling can be a great way to go deeper and explore any new discoveries after a trauma-informed yoga session.

Journalling is not for everyone and there's no pressure to do this work outside of your trauma-informed yoga sessions.

If you do feel inspired to write, here are some journal prompts that may help to work as a guide. (Or if you don't relate to any of these questions, just put pen to paper and go with the flow)

From your trauma-informed yoga session...

  • What parts of the body did you connect (feel, sense, become aware of) with most?

  • Can you label any of these feelings/sensations? For example, heat, coolness, tingling, bubbling, sickness, tiredness.

  • Did any emotions arise that were connected to (or separate from) these feelings/sensations?

  • At any point(s) did you feel good? If so, describe in more detail

  • At any point(s) did these feelings/sensations become overwhelming? If so, describe in more detail

  • At any point(s) did you notice you became disassociated? If so, describe in more detail

  • At any point(s) did you experience any visual flashbacks (these can be trauma or non-trauma related)? If so, describe in more detail

  • At any point(s) did you choose to come out of an exercise early or ask to make a change? If so, describe how it felt to speak out and make these decisions.

  • How did it feel to connect to your breathing? What feelings/sensations/emotions (if any) arose?

  • How did you feel before the session and after the session?

  • Since your last session(s) have you noticed any changes to your mood, energy, concentration, sleep, or attention?
